YARN!!!!!!!!!!
Way to much money later.... *ehem*
Noro - Kureyon #102

This is for the MagKnits.com bag.
Valeria di Roma Cinta #455

Click to enlarge. For the Bucket hat MAYBE. I can't find yarn at the LYS that I want for the hat so I may wind up getting it from online.
Plymouth Sockotta Sock Yarn

The bottom left. This isn't a good picture.
I got some Addi Turbo's I needed for the projects and some DPN's. I spent more on the needles then on the dang yarn. BAH!!!
I don't like cotton twist. 75 yards in a skein is crappy and I dunno the ladies always point me to it but I don't like it. Anyone else dis-like cotton twist, the solid colors?

Nice yarn that you picked up! Very pretty Kureyon. I've always liked the colors in the Sockotta yarn too. Haven't ever been inspired to pick up the Cotton Twist either.
Here's the info I typed up on the smaller Sophie bag that I made with the Kureyon. You can see that it's more rectangular than trapezoidal like the original. The Kureyon bag is almost as wide as the other sophie, but about half as high. I cast on about four or five fewer stitches, cause I knew I didn't have enough yarn for a full sized bag. I only did 28 rows of garter stitch and then picked up only 14 stitches for the sides. I had exactly enough yarn to do three decreases and then one single i-cord. I knew there wouldn't be enough for two i-cords, so I bound off a few more stitches on front and back and left just the 5 middle stitches from each side and made a 5-stitch i-cord. Play with the numbers and just knit until you've only got a handful left for the strap. And have fun!
The zipper isn't too hard, just a little tricky because you can't close the bag. I bought a regular zipper, unzipped it, pinned each side to the bag, then basted the sides down and used backstitch for the actual sewing. I tucked the extra bit where the zipper stop is into the bag and tacked it down with a few stitches. I found a website with a few helpful pics here: http://irwinmb.typepad.com/my_knitting_life/2004/04/post_3.html. She recommends Nancie Wiseman's book on Finishing Techniques, which is also the book I used to help me through my first zipper!
Best of luck with the sophie bags! Don't hesitate to write me if you have any questions. I'm happy to help. :)
