yarn..
I picked up some yarn to mix with one of the boa's I am making my flowergirls. The first one I made was so nice looking I didn't think it fair the other two be so plain.

I don't like Cast on Cottage as much as S&S for sure.. today when i went in one of the ladies working at the counter was yelling into the phone (apprently some guy who was doing work for them or selling them yarn was being stupid) so she was yelling and trying to get off the phone with him. She should have just hung up. I litterally walk into the store and she said something and then repeats it like 3 more times getting more evil sounding till she's yelling, then hangs the phone up and huffs.
Only person who said anything to me was the owner once she said "finding what you need?" and that was it. Everytime we walked by each other (close quarters) I was forced to get out of HER way.. um.. yeah.. I actually like the yarn they have their but S&S was so much more open, had way more kits.. also CoC has crappy knitting books if you ask me, none of the ones we all reference in our blogs as our favorites.
Okay I'll stop b}tching. I only spent $11. I wanted to buy more but I found nothing I liked (no patterns I would be caught dead in). I don't think I am being a pattern snob.. well.. maybe I am..

i am broke!
So I am broke now.. after paying the painter, money down on the new car, money to pay off the wedding dress, wedding supplies etc.. I had to transfer money from savings into checking. I still owe college 2k I am suprised they havn't called me and bugged me about it. I know I don't get my degree till I pay so I am not worried and I think they should not worry.. hehe..
So I was surfing the knitting blogs and decided to check out the back issues of Interweave Knits and the summer 2002 issue. I also liked the rowan 2002 and that year seemed to have a lot of simple and classy designs going around. Check it out, it's nice. I like the mens pullover. I'll allow myself to buy it once I finish moonbeam!

kntting news??
Nope I have nothing to share with you guys! I had an insane weekend of driving and 0 knitting. I brought it with me, but i didn't get to it.
I am enjoying working on Moonbeam it was going very fast, I need to close up the top of the bucket hat still. Hopefully this weekend I will get to knit a decent amount!
I have a lot of homework this weekend (due saturday) and my computer died in a thunder storm. Jesse is slowly working to fix it, he has many other things to do to keep him busy.. and I am lazy and don't want to do anything.. so I wont be having any KnitKam pics for a while.. :(

weekend pics
What do you think of my rehersal dinner dress I picked out tonight? The shoes I think will look better if I get fake tan on my pasty legs. Maybe some dangly earings with some of the color from the shoes? It's hard to tell but the shoes actually have the same color on them as the dress is. I feel like I'm off an episode that well known HBO series :)

moonbeams and rainbows..
So on sunday i cast on mb (moonbeam) while drinking corona, it is sooo much more fun to cast on while drunk. After every 20 sts i counted and placed a marker because counting 98 consecutive sts while drunk is not easy! Anways it went by super fast..
Then yesterday i worked a first and second row and in the middle of the second row I got a phone call and make the mistake of knitting while talking and accidently messed up the rib by at somepoint knitting 4 instead of 2.
Okay I started about 2 hours ago, cast on again and got to 4 more rows! Go me! This knits fast for me.. I'm still slow :)
How to knit a twisted purl stich for ribbing:

I stick my needle under. I actually put the yarn UNDER it but I held it up for the pic.

Here I have pulled the yarn up through it.

Here it is knit now..

TOBY@!!!

Parrell and danger lie ahead..
*in my best twilight zone narration voice*
As it turns out, I twist ALL my purl stiches. I made a whole HAT this way, a whole back of a sweater and a whole purse! ACK! No one TOLD ME!
So I went into S&S to purchase the rest of my baby cashmerino for the tank (as I have swatched and earned it!) and they took a look at my swatch and commented on how pretty the ribbing looked with a twisted stich and asked me which stich was a twisting. What?
So we identified it as the purl I am twising. Dang Nab It!! I wonder if that would make it any harder to knit or something? I hope maybe it explains why my sides are so wonky on my st st items..
So now I think I have to start over on the cable scarf... but I will continue the baby sweater with the twisted stich sence I made a whole back already.
They also helped me figure out me gauge so I am moving up a needle size to a 6 to reach the 4 inches, and no I'm not gonna test it I'm tired of it I'm going for it!
Hey guess what Jesse and I purchased yesterday? It was our first true purchase together with both our names on the loan (the house was more him them me really).

Except in silver, with real metal rims and HUGE tired and it can be washed out with a hose! I wanted the CR-V but Jesse really liked this and when you go into this car, it's hard to say no. I wanted this green but it had florecent green accents on the inside I don't think I could handle for more then 6 months.
We haggled the car dealer down and got a good price on it. I DID THE HAGGLING! Jesse is my support. I was so proud of myself. We also got a dang good rate. Afterwords the finance guy (we got along with very well) asked us what rate would we have been happy with.
We had written down everything before we went in like the MAX we would pay for anything. We where right on with the car, the trade in was about even and the interest rate was HALF what we thought it was. We think they gave us a fair rate because after we settled on the car I said to the guy.. if we walk in there and get a crappy rate we will not be purchasing this vehicle today. So we think he went and told the guy to give us a fair deal. Buying cars is sick and it's all about ripping you off so we are really proud we did good and got what we wanted! So I don't think we sould have been so honest with this guy, but hell we already had the deal we wanted so oh well. Helps them sell better I guess, but now we know what we can get for the future! Jesse said he will wait till my/his car gets good and old before he gets a new one (he's so good that way, i want a new car every 3 years) and it will be paid off in 2 years which is good.
Honda Carland in Alpharetta comes highly reccomended by Jesse and I. When pulled up this one dude was all over us I told him we just wanted to look so we crawled into some cars and waited till we spotted another salesmen that we liked better (he wasnt trying to stalk us) he was very polite, Jesse says I irritated him which Jesse says GOOD do it more! lol cause I want the numbers given to me straight and I dont want this Taxt/Tag/Title BS bitting us in the ass.
We bought the rate down some more by putting more down and we did a 4 year loan with a payment which is already $60 less the my car (which is now Jesse's car).
We are honda lovers! It's neat though the car was made in ohio, has very low smog stuff and most of the parts come from canada vs. Japan which is nice sence EVERYTHING is made in Japan.
I'll post pics of the car and me in it, and the tank cast on soon!

excuse my bare walls..

You will notice pinned to the chair is my swatch.. hehe.. the whole chair is foam so it makes a nifty blocking board lol.. okay so like it's stretched out and pinned (not to stretched!) so do I spray it with water or what? I'm gonna go ahead and do it! Cause I want it ready tommorow for when I go to the yarn store.
the room is bare because we havn't painted or moved furniture in or anything (well we don't own any furniture for the most part). Today the dog yacked on the bed and then cleaned it up himself! How nice.. *puke*.. so I had to change the sheets. Heh, every cam shot has my rumpled comforter behind it.. yeah me and Jesse are not into makin beds!

Over the river and through the woods..
.. to the yarn shop we will go...
Tommorow after school I can go to the yarn shop! I may go to S&S again because I think I love the baby cashmerino (DB) so I can allow myself to buy enough for the whole tank.
I have several yarns I am going to put up for sale here. I tried to make the hat in that flat cotton, bleh.. then there is that cotton i have from the original chickami i was gonna make, bleh.. then the mission falls. All nice quality yarn, but I hate cotton!!!
So tonight its swatching, homework and class tommorow! YAY FOR WEEKENDS!!!!!!!! I hope they have THE DPN's I BADLY NEED!

Moonbeam - Swatching!
My first true swatch..

Okay so it's 2 inches with 15 rows. It's supposed to be 4 inches when I do 30 rows total, but which part do I measure? As I show above, the height, or the width??
These are the things they don't tell us newbies!! For example.. my freakin book for refrence etc doesn't have an explanation of Stockinette vs. garter stich patterns. It tells you that st st = stockinette, but it doesnt tell you what makes that stich! I had to HAND WRITE it into the book lol.
Also the ball of yarn says that about the same amount of rows and stiches as my swatch has should be 10cm (4 inches) but on US 3 needles, I used 5.. and I think umm.. I am getting that same gauge?? I must be doing something wonky! HELP!
Oh and.. of course I love this yarn cause it's for fancy baby cloths. Why do I like baby yarn? lol.. it's soo soft stiched up.. it's also easy to knit!

Bucket this, bucket that..
Still no DPN's so no hat.. I probably can get them after class on saturday.. then lets all hope I come home with a new car!! (CR-V)
I started another bucket in two shades of cotton ease blue, but I think I will frog it and use that weird flat cotton I got a while back.. it would be fun to knit up (I think..)
my finger is still not 100% and it hurts if it knocks into anything.. esh.. oh and I wanna buy a new digi cam and give jesse mine.. I HATE MINE! I miss my olypmus I gave me sister. I shouldn't spend the money, but I need it to take pictures at my wedding shower.. my bridal fitting.. etc etc..
I have no urge to buy yarn, this is good! Though I know once I start the rowan tank on a yarn I pick I will want to buy enough to make it. mmmm indeed, I should test it out before saturday so I can get it when I get the DPN's (BAD BINDY!)

Progress...
Well I am nearly to the end of my first bucket, just probably 10 or 20 more rows to close the top part up. I don't have DPN's so I had to stop and wait. I think I will start a NEW hat with that NEW yarn to see how I like it. I may combine two colors for the double stranded part.. I doubt those balls have enough yarn anways! Gives me something to do till I get the DPN's and I can get set for the Rowan ribbed tank!
I'm gonna do a medium sized one to see how it turns out.

Knitting and Knails (ehem..)
I went after work and had a Manicure/Pedicure. It was sooo nice I havn't done it in years. I am going to go every week until the wedding to get myself all set!
So they did my feet first so I pulled out my bucket hat. Oh my gawd, you would think I was queen of the prom! All the ladies working in the shop came over asking me how hard it was, how did I do it. Women getting their nails done across the room where staring.
At first I was all embarassed, then i realized they were like.. impressed! The lady next to me getting her toes done told me how she had taken lessons but never was able to make anything. They all smiled and talked to me and it came to conversations about her daughter and being irish and pale skin and all kinds of funny things! They complimented me on my pale skin (isn't that a funny thing, the ladies from Tiwann SP??? find pale skin beutiful, they want to make their skin lighter..) and my cute bright yellow hat. It was so weird and fun all at once.
It was just.. funny.. I felt like the queen of the prom driving up in a limo and everone wants to check the limo out, everyone even touched my hat! hah!

Today..
was a great day, until about 2 hours ago when it went awful. Family issue came to head. I am so proud and so happy to know that I have a man who loves me, respects me and stands up for me. I love my man. I am also sick and tired of the close-mindedness of the south. I don't know how much longer I can live here, and we just got this house so it will be a few years yet.. days like this I really miss my mom. I am just so lucky to have such supporting parents and such a supporting future husband. I love him so much. It's all just very sad, cause it didn't have to be this way. It didn't need to be so hard.
In other news check out the right hand KnitKam pics, you can see the lower of the two photos is from last night, and the top one is from tonight. That's progress!!

Strings & Strands - Atlanta, GA
Today I went to "Strings & Strands" in Atlanta to see if they had different yarns then the other place I go close to work. I called ahead and was pleased to hear they carried Rowan, and also Debbi Bliss which really I could have cares less about. I read once on a blog that her patterns have problems so I kinda wrote her off.
For the Rowan tank I want to make I purchased 4 types or yarns to try out and see if I liked. Jesse and I came up with the plan that from now on I won't do any project over $20 until I buy ONE ball of yarn to test it.
You see as it turns out I don't like Missions falls, or 100% cotton at all.. it's dry and it bothers me and it's tough to knit "hard on the hands" as some say. Below are pics of my tester yarns. I am tempted to make a bucket hat our off them! heh.. I really like the colors though you can't see well with my webcam.

It was my first time in S&S and I have to say they are super nice. Not a good needle collection from what I could see but they carried Crystal Palace which I tend to like just fine (I didn't see addi's but I wasn't there for needles..). The lady who owns it, she has owned is 14 years and her mother was their in the shop as well. I really liked her, she was soo helpful and just nice. I have to say its now my favorite yarn store! The owner was *all about* debbie bliss so hey I'll give it a try.. can't hurt. And I got the oh so lovely Rowan Calmer that I hear so much about.. $10.. bleh.. :) Nice yardage though..
I think Vera is dead. I would love to swap out my Mission falls yarn with someone who has some cool yarn they also don't want! I think they where $7 each but I can't remember..
