anti-progress

I made lots of progress last night on brett's sweater:

sirdar_line.jpg

But it was.. ANTI-PROGRESS! You see I some how wound up going up a bit to far in stockinette before the purls. So well thats no big deal cause I did that on the back side up farther up. wait a minute bindy, you know you have to seam this together right? You know if you seam it and it's not identical that the rows won't line up right?

Crap, you mean I actually have to think ahead? So I'll be froggin some rows tonight!

New pattern..

I found this pattern while looking around the LYS in class tuesday:

sirdar_1562.jpg

The great thing about SIRDAR is these can be knit from newborn to 6 year old.. I just love that. So if I really like how it turns out, I can make him the next size up!

It's going to Brett's second sweater I knit him. I didn't allow myself to purchase the yarn yet.. I'm not allowed till I finish his other sweater. I love the yarn it's made out of, and I actually got two skeins of it in the olive green color, to make a hat as a quick project for a co-workers baby, and if I like the way it turns out I can do one for Brett, and THEN he would have a matching sweater and hat!!

I want to start it right now, but I don't want to allow myself to have that whole problem with not having any FO's. So.. no yarn for me!! :(

The last two nights may hands were very dry.. which is weird because I have knitted for a few months without a dry hand problem.. and all it does is rain..

sunday progress

I made a lot of progress on moonbeam. It's not even 8pm yet! Still to slow for my own wanting, but not so bad I guess. I need 2 more CM's and then I get to start my increases. I don't think I have ever increased before except in class 1 time.. but I didn't really do it, just sorta tried it and I don't remember.. so this will be interesting! I also cast on for the back of Brett's sweater!

Toby and me are watching the Video Music Awards on MTV!

More pattern help needed!

Progress on the baby sweater.. I was able to cast off one shoulder. I did a damn fine job if i do say so myself. Though I didnt totaly cast off the last stich correctly but hey its the BACK of the sweat you do first right? hehe..

My book came today - The Knitters Book of Finishing Techniques

What do you know but I used it this very day in order to learn how to do a cast off in pattern (k, p). I had to concentrate hard. Kicked Jesse out of the room because he was on the phone jabberin away. I was so excited I have wanted to be at this part in the back side for well over a week! But I am still not done.. who wants to help me with this next part?

Looking at the RS I have a section of cast off stiches (shoulder I assume) then they decrease down a bit and then on a stich holder is many stiches. So I need to make the center of the neck and the other shoulder.. (I assume).

brett_02.jpg

---- <- cast off
    \
     \
      ------------ <- on stich holder

With RS facing

working on rem 45 sts, slip 19 sts onto a sitch holder.
Um well they are all on a stich holder?? So I need to put the non-19 back onto a needle.. which ones? center ones? right ones?

Rejoin yarn to rem 26 sts and pattern to end.
Rejoin with what?? The new yarn I need to bring in?? How does one bring in new yarn??

More pattern questions..

End with a WS row.
Okay I know which is the WS but how do I know if I have "ended" on one. Does that mean if I have the wrong side facing me I should then knit it as the last row, or do I want the right side facing me once I am all done.

Work 10 rows more.
Does this mean in the patt?

Shape Neck
Next Row. Patt 26, turn, leave rem 45 sts on stich holder.
Okay so I do 26 sitches in my pattern. What does TURN mean? I understand about the rem 45 going onto a stich holder. I have never done that before, new stuff!

Working on these 26 sts only proceed as follows:-
Next Row. Patt, (is this one full row of 26 sts in the pattern?)
Work 2 rows dec 1 st at neck edge in ever row. 24 sts. (then after that full row above I do 2 more rows decreasing... somewhere..)
Work 4 more rows without shaping.
(without shaping I assume means no decreases..?)
Cast off in Patt.

Sweater Progress

toddler2.jpgVery close to being done with this one side! Ohhhh nelly, then I gotta do more pattern stuff I am not familiar with!

I accidentaly did 2 rows the wrong way again last night. Go figure I always seem to start to screw up around 11pm or 12am. So I frogged them last night and was very determined, instruected the dog to not sit on the pattern or the yarn and went to it. Not a smart thing to attempt at 11pm but hey, i was determined! And I was successful and then did 2 correct rows for good measure.

Phildar Pitchoun Spring 2004

Just lost a whole entry.. I want to make a sweater fluffa made for her son.

Only place I could find to get it is from www.knitntyme.com It only comes in french and google does not like the word "Pitchoun".

Phildar.fr has pictures of all the patterns which is nice.

It's the red one on the right:

They have such adorable patterns for kids, and adults. To me they far surpase most of the US pattern books.. (sorry!).

The Aviso Yarn can also be found on that site (and looky it has a pic of that same sweater!). I think I would get it in 056 (Marine).

Toddler Sweater Progress!

Well I think I can post progress on my sweater. The last few nights I kept messing up on it. Frogged it back perfeclty and then last night dropped a stich AGAIN, but this time I picked it up okay and it's only a TEENY little error which isn't noticable.. no way I am frogging again for that.

So without further ado, here is the pic:

Not to shabby for having learned to purl 2 weeks ago! I scanned it at work that's why the photo is kind of odd.

June 01, 2004

wipes brow... and sighs..

wow.. I did it and I didn't mess up. Last night around midnight I was over halfway done with the height of the back so I kept going, to my dismay I had dropped a stitch somehow. I picked it up and could only make it be a knit looking stitch but no hole so I thought "oh well who cares" with a little tug at my heart. Jesse said. KEEP GOING no one will notice! Then *I* noticed further down on that row some other weird kind of stitch, not dropped but it was weird it wasn't in the fold so to speak.. it was like it wasn't knit but it was still connected to everything.

So today during a conference call at work (I have a groovy headset that I adore) I pulled out 3 rows back to the mess up row and slowly began putting it back on the needle. I got it on near perfect. The last stitch I think needs to be purled back and then put on the needle. I will ask my teacher in class to make sure and show her with pride A) the amount I have done on my own (ehem.. with the internets help!) and how I frogged it successfully without breaking it all (on the baby alpaca frogging forced me to rip the WHOLE thing cause I couldn't catch them on the needle).

so YAY I ripped it without ruining the whole thing and *cheer* its perfect again.

What is NOT perfect is my teeth. Oh oh oh the ache!!!! I wore braces for 4.5 years when I was younger. then in college all but forgot my retainer. Then slowly over the last 5 years my left front tooth creeped over my left front tooth and came forward. In pictures they looked perfect still but it was getting worse and worse. So off to the ortho I went. I had the choose between a retainer and braces. He also said I had an overbite and I figured well ONE day I may want to fix that and I am NOT going to have braces 3 times in my life so lets just go for a retainer! So I got a spring aligned funky retainer. It hurt at first and then I got so used to it I got a headache if I didn't wear it.

This is all in vain of the wedding mind you, must have perfect teeth! I also had a mole on my neck removed (you can't imagine how cool it is to feel it and it's not there!! gross yeah but I am the honest type and it wasn't an ugly mole.. just a mole.. ONLY ONE I had on my body.. ALL GONE NOW!!) and so today he adjusted the retainer to pull my tooth back (the last 3 months it has pulled the tooth to the left to get it off of the other one). So OWE OWE OWE OWEEEEEEEEE!!!!!! I am about to get a headache.. BAD!!!!!

Next up comes my getting a weird virus on my finder removed with *minor* surgery. I got it in college. it's like a wart but it's not a wart. (if your still reading, wow I am amazed cause my sister won't even let me tell her these things) and I got it from dry hands and being on public keyboards all day in college. So This one on the side of my finger simply won't go away. No one noticed, but I DO I DO!!! And I can't get my nails done with it like this and I haven't had nails on in 5 years (what did college do to my hands and my teeth!?!?) and I know I want it for the wedding and always I need to fix it because it can only get worse over the years.

It's going to be very painful! I'm set to go next week and I imagine I won't be able to knit for a week.. bleh.. so yeah okay enough about my nasty personal life.. lol

Photos - click for larger verions!

This pattern book/mag has some really nice stuff in it. Everything has to be knit in the round though and I already have one project to do in the round, I am not ready for that! So I got the book but not the yarn.

Here is my stash (click photos for bigger pic)

I have more then 1 of some of them.

Decrease on one side

Decrease on the other side

If this was the right side then I would have decreased properly (decrease in the deeper part) but I have no idea which is which!!

And the photo of the sweater again (I am working on the bottom part of the front/back)

Well i got through the rib..

With some help from Savannachik knits I was able to finish the rib bottom part of the back of the sweater, now on-ward to the WHOLE back! I suppose when i get to the top is when I should be worried :) I will have to end with a WS row which I am not sure how to know if I am on the right or wrong side. Lots of other scarey things follow, but atleast now I have some non-thinking stuff to do.

I really wanted to be at a hard part for class on tuesday so I could get help. I won't be taking another class till september because the teacher isn't teaching till august and I won't be around then because of the wedding. I bet there are other classes going on in the mean time but the teacher didn't suggest anything.

Questions!!

I am really enjoying the boys sweater. I started out all wrong and frogged 2 rows but now I have 4 wonderful, beautiful rows!! But as this is my first sweater pattern to follow I am having issues..

Question 1:

It has a 2X2 rib which is 2 rows to the pattern. After it sets the rib pattern it says;

work 7 more rows more in the 2x2 rib.

So i take that "more" to mean on top of the 2 I just did to learn the pattern. So when it says 7 ROWS more, that means the pattern or "2x2 rib" 3 1/2 more times?

So I would do

Rib (2 rows) - setting the pattern

Rib (2 rows)
Rib (2 rows)
Rib (2 rows)
Rib (1 row of the rib) - for a total of 9 rows

Question 2:

Next after that it says - NEXT ROW. Rib to end dec (decrease) 3 sts evenly across row. 71sts. Change to 4mm needles and procedd as follows (then it sets a 14 row pattern).

What in the world do I do? It says 71 sts, what does that mean? I started out with 74, so that must mean now I will have 71 sts left if I decrease by 3? Right? okay i think i get that one little part.

So to be clear here is pattern:

Using 3 1/4mm needles and the thumb method cast on 74 sts.
1st Row: *K2, p2, rep from * to last 2 stst, k2
2nd Row: P2, *k2, p2, rep from the * to end.
These 2 rows will now be referred to as 2x2 rib.
Work 7 rows more in 2x2 rib.
Next row. Rib to end dec 3 sts evenly across row. 71 sts.

So maybe the reason it doesnt have you finish the "rib" is because the second half of the last rib, or last row in the rib your going to decrease in it. How does one decrease evenly across a row? on the ends? Split up in the center?

If you have an answer: brandy @ mediadiva.net

I'll get comments working as soon as my fiance upgrade my blog program!

New Pattern

Well I havn't felt like working on my tank, or my scarf (which I totally frogged) so I have a new project (go figure).

Sirdar #2062 SNUGGLY DK, and it only uses 3 balls for a sweater for a 1-2yr old. So that's like 8 bucks for a sweater!

I can't figure out the pattern however. It says;
Row 1: *K2, P2
Row 2: P2, *K2, P2

I dont understand how that makes a rib, it seems like it would all be off and be more of a checker board thing??

The shop swapped out my 15s (I called Crystal Palace, then the store) which was great. I selected clover 3s and 6s for this project and it's the first time i have used clover bamboo, both the yarn and the needles seem more "sticky" then the Crystal Palace needles and the Alpaca Yarn. I am not sure I like it but I think I can get used to it. I messed up the first row and frogged it. Blah. I am not in a good knitting way this week. I screw everything up. I should just give it a break but I WANT TO KNIT! I'll buy Crystal Palace from now on tho..

We went to the trunk show the yarn was sooo nice but I was good and didn't get any of it. I was very tempted. My friend Sarah came with me, we hooked her up with some tools and yarn and tommorow at lunch I am going to teach her to knit! Probably we will just start with a basic cast on... if we can get past that maybe a knit stich!

Gah I wish I could actually knit something I didnt have to frog..
